Azure City

The setting of Aspire is Azure City, one of the star attractions of the United Paragon Territories. As the largest city on the East Coast of the UPT, Azure City has something for everyone. While it is not the capital of Meadowsburg, the Territory in which it resides, it is the most well-known city in the Territory.

The northern border runs along the Wellspring River, which flows into the Aretian Ocean. The capital city of Meadowsburg, Fielding City, is due West of Azure City. The southern border once welcomed people to and from Dusktide City. Dusktide City was the site of the accident where Heroes were considered too dangerous. The southern part of the city became the Slums, still standing but damage that spilled over from the accident has made people mostly abandon the area. Most of the lower-class families reside in this area due to the cheap housing.

The Industrial district uses the Wellspring River to generate most of the electrical power for the whole city and has several shipping companies on the side of it meeting the coast. Whether it’s importing and exporting goods or bringing in travelers, the Industrial district is where all of the major docks of the city are located.

Further down in the Market district is all of the city’s famous restaurants, shopping centers, and entertainment hubs. The southern half of the Market district’s coastline also has a very popular beach. Dusktide City was once the most popular beach destination on the coast, where as Azure City’s beach was seen as the smaller one reserved for the elites of society. Since the accident, Azure City is trying to expand the amount of people the beach can accommodate.

The University district is home to Azure University, one of the top 3 schools in the UPT and in the top 10 worldwide. There are many apartment buildings in this district, along with public library, numerous coffee shops, and most of the technology outlets of the city. While stereotypical, this environment has consistently proven to be ideal to the students who come here.

Finally, the Administrative district is where the capitol building of the city resides. Mayor Quincy Vazquez often plays host to Veronica Meadows, the Paragon of Meadowsburg, as well as other Paragons from the UPT and even foreign officials. While Vazquez is very diplomatic and friendly on the surface, he often shows cracks in his composure when it comes to villain problems as well as still dealing with the fallout of Dusktide City’s destruction. The Administrative district is mostly rich housing and hotels for visiting officials.

The Spire set up Guardian Angels HQ near the Slums near both the Market and Administrative districts. The Slums are unfortunately very prone to villain attacks and borders the Dusktide City ruins, where mysterious activity is common. This ultimately made this location ideal for the HQ, as not only are they in the most chaotic are of the city, they also have quick access to the Market and Administrative districts.

The Spire and his partner, Feather, also live and work in the Slums under their civilian identities. They are determined to push back the waves of crime in Azure City and are always looking for help.

Meet the Cast: The Spire

The Spire is the central hero at the heart of Aspire. The tabletop campaign may focus on the group of heroes that come together, but in this world The Spire is the reason they’re coming together in the first place. While he is not the most powerful hero around, his dedication to justice has made him a symbol to the people of Azure City that, perhaps, Heroes can be trusted again.

The Spire’s real name is Neil Mallory. He’s an electronics and programming expert, but before he focused on this he was an athlete with a promising career before an injury caused him to drop out of his physical aspirations and focus on growing his knowledge in multiple facets of technology.

The suit that Neil wears compensates for his injury, allowing him not only walk without a limp again, it also gives a significant boost to his strength and stamina. As The Spire, Neil can jump up to 50 feet in the air and land without issue, run up to 50 kilometers per hour, and lift up to 1000 kilograms without issue. He can push past these limits but it increases the risk of damage to his body since the suit can only handle so much.

His helmet gives him an augmented reality Heads Up Display, its most notable feature being identifying firearms and displaying their predicted trajectory, giving The Spire a very high chance of avoiding gunfire. The suit itself provides protection as well, but any damaged sustained runs the risk of damaging the electronics that power the suit.

Despite his knowledge on technology, Neil did not make the suit. He has studied it extensively and is capable of repairing it, but duplicating or enhancing its features has thus far proven to be beyond his ability.

In the tabletop campaign, The Spire serves as your primary contact for what’s going on in the city and how you can help. In the comic the origins of the suit are explored as well as how he formed his team, the Guardian Angels.

What is Aspire?

Aspire is a Super Hero Tabletop RPG scenario being written by Jacob “Gunner” Finger. It is currently being created with the Hero System in mind, but the possibility of a custom system is being evaluated as well. Aspire started as a comic book series and is still planned to have one at some point, however until that can be a reality this RPG will be the first exposure of the project made publicly available.

The premise of the campaign is a world where super powers are a reality. The world is not Earth, but is still populated by humans. After an accident in a prominent city, super heroes are no longer commonplace. Heroes are hated for being symbols of uncontrolled, violent conflict and the accident was the tipping point. While most heroes have retired, those who use their powers for evil are still running rampant.

The International Bureau of Investigative Services (I.B.I.S.) and regional law enforcement are hard-pressed to keep villains in check. I.B.I.S. hosts the only heroes still acting in the open, and they are very few in number. Law enforcement refuses to allow super powered entities. People who do have powers are afraid to step out into the open to help.

This changed 6 months before the start of the campaign. A new hero, calling himself “The Spire” stepped up in Azure City and started making a positive impact on the city. The campaign starts with The Spire putting out a call for those who aspire to be a hero to join his team, the Guardian Angels.

Right now, the first chapter of the campaign is about 75% done. The plan is once the campaign has a few chapters completely ready the sessions will be live streamed on the NowLoading Entertainment Twitch channel and the campaign materials will be posted after the sessions for other people to host their own sessions.

Stay tuned, this is our first major project and we’re very excited about it!
